Maki launches "The Makeup Maki" by Beauty guru Mai Al Moayed

The  Make-up Maki is the latest addition to Maki’s extensive menu. Maki approached Mai  AlmoayedBahrain’s very own make-‐up guru who is also a make-up artist. She founded The  Make-up Manual and  hosts professional classes to educate women about  make-up and skincare. Maki approached Mai to design her own maki.
The Make-up Maki is an explosion of flavors for one’s taste  buds, with ingredients that create a  harmony of decadent  taste. The  Make-up Maki incorporates tempura prawn, avocado, rice pearl, wasabi flakes, drizzled extra virgin olive oil, topped  with chopped tempura, cherry tomato, cucumber, carrots, thakwan, spring onion, and  lastly,  a drizzle of mango and strawberry sauce.
I personally loved the sushi as it wasn't too overpowering with the taste of raw fish and was just the way I like my sushi!
The concept of the maki is to portray the beauty of make-up and colorful palettes,  with  a surprising twist of flavorful ingredients. In addition, the vibrant maki reflects Almoayed’s  lively and fun personality, which is essential in namesake dishes. The  Make-up  Maki officially launched on Thursday, November 21.

Visit Maki at World Trade Center to try The Make-up Maki – which is not only visually beautiful, but will excite your taste buds!

Rainy day!

The weather has been incredible off late and I’ve been spending the long holidays at my favorite rooftop restaurants in Bahrain. (Follow me on instagram @askthestylecouncil to know what I’m talking about).

It was drizzling the other day so it was only fitting that I carry an umbrella for the outfit post! Here’s where I wish I had a cool umbrella with bunny or kitty ears. Yes, I saw a little girl carry one around and I wanted it! Don’t forget that rain doesn't have to be your enemy. As much as you enjoy the rain sitting indoors, sipping on warm tea, you can even enjoy it outside in the right attire. By this I mean light rain! Always wear an open cardigan as opposed to closed chunky knitwear if it’s a little chilly outside. The discomfort caused by the dampness of wool is much less when it’s an open sweater. Try sticking to flats and something that has a good grip. Heels are a complete NO-NO. So is suede and cloth-covered footwear. Then again, we all know that. Although I have my hair down in this post, I think it’s better to be tied up or loosely pleated so the dampness doesn't get into your hair and make it BIG and messy.

On another note, I hear there’s a storm hitting Bahrain. Is that true? I have mixed sources so was just wondering! Oh well, if it does, I hope it doesn't get too bad. Stay safe my darlings!

Malibu Barbie

We're soaking up the last bit of summer now, and I'm putting all my summer dresses to use before I push them back into my closet for a 4 month hibernation period. As much as I'm going to miss sundresses, I'm waiting to wear trench coats and knee high boots.I wore this tropical printed dress to brunch with the bride to be, a.k.a my sister/photographer. We went to Tilly's and we loved it!They have great food, excellent ambiance and some seriously yummy and may I add, healthy drinks! I'll be doing a review on that soon so stay tuned.

The weather has been great off late but I cant tell whether I love it or not.It gets chilly at night and although it's not boot season yet, I'm pretty bummed out because I cant plan my outfits well. Last night was chillier than usual but then when I put on a decent jacket, I start feeling warm again. So while Mother nature is having her fun, I'm clearly not. Will you make up your mind already?

On another note, I'll be part of a very exciting project next week and I cant wait to disclose details about the event.

What to wear - First Date

Did that cute guy you've been  eyeing ask you out on a lunch date? Confused about what to wear?

It's best to always find out where he's taking you before you decide on your outfit, but sometimes, he might want to keep it a surprise and you don't want to kill the excitement by pestering him to tell you where you're eating at. So first things first- If it's a dinner date, you can spice it up a notch by going heavy on the eyes and a simple dress that fits well, but that's not too clingly. That way, the make up and the dress are balanced and in sync. A dress in a solid color is safer than busy prints.
If it's a lunch date, you could wear jeans and a dressy top with heels but you could also opt for a cute skirt and a chic jacket over a blouse combo.
Remember to wow him every time you go out and always show skin in moderation. If you're going to show some leg, wear your hair up in a chic do and let the legs be the wow factor. The next time you go out , wear a pair of snug jeans a chiffon black strappy blouse and have big wavy, loose hair and let your hairdo wow him. Similarly- learn to wow him every time you go out and make sure you don't overdo it on the first date.

If you're very confused, invest in some Little Black Dresses. You're never too overdressed or underdressed in an LBD!

If you're still confused and worried about how you might look, ask him to give you a clue or at least get him to tell you the dress code of the venue. If he gives in after all you're pestering he might be worth seeing but if he starts getting annoyed , see him once and that's it. We are women. Our annoying levels go way up after a certain time frame.* LOL.

* Does not apply to all women.

How to-Glam up a dolly dress

One of my favorite silhouettes for dresses this fall are dolly dresses. They're easy to wear and super classy. The best thing about a dolly dress is that you can either make it look cute by pairing it with flats and a cross body bag or glam it up a notch by adding in some statement accessories and of course some gorgeous shoes.
Here are my tips on glamming up a semi-plain dolly dress or a skater dress:

  • Wear a statement necklace or cuff , depending on the neckline of the dress. But don't do both. Big earrings would work too. Something chunky, not outdated chandelier earrings.
  • If there's detailing on the back, wear your hair up. a loose knot or a chic up-do would work well.
  • If the dress is a darker colour, keep your lips pale and pile on the shadow on the eyes and wear lots of mascara.
  • You can add a belt if you like, but I personally think it's not needed if you're neck piece is loud.
  • Carry a clutch. Clutches are always more glamorous than handbags.
  • And finally, kill it with some killer heels- the sparklier, the better!
