DIY - Pimp my Bling.

I had to attend a friend's wedding recently and I realized I had no earrings to match my green-blue-gold saree. So I awakened the awesomeness in me and created my own pair. Here's what I did:

     You will need:
  • A pair of  earrings you want to modify
  • A few glass beads
  • An old earring
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • I'd say scissors, but hey, teeth will do!

Hope this picture tutorial helped. Make your own and let me know how they turn out. Remember to get creative with whatever you have at home !

Little yellow flowers

There's a solitary ground I pass by, on my way to work everyday. Every time I looked at it, I saw nothing but thorny shrubs and sand, along with small prickly weeds and rocks. It looked eerie, especially at night.

But as the island grew colder, the ground grew cleaner. The wind had blown away most of the rubbish and I started noticing how the little thorns had now become gorgeous little yellow flowers. It no longer looked spooky, In fact it looked inviting, and so I went inside, dragging along my sister, who is also my photographer, to only find that the scary ground was now covered in a carpet of flowers and OH MY GOD I died! It looked so beautiful and I was so excited. It was as though my sister and I had discovered a new place, that no one else knew about and that was invisible to the public. We found a little paradise in he middle of no where and realized that we should definitely explore more.

On a style note, the weather was super windy and cold, so I threw on my favorite trench coat , my trusty camo leggings and red lips to keep with the season.

Until I find the next undiscovered location,

Boots. My weakness. I love wearing boots, but I rarely get a chance to wear them due to the climatic conditions in this sauna, and by that I mean Bahrain. This winter was a joke and I got to wear these babies only twice. I’m very picky with boots. A lot of people don’t realize that their boots say a lot about their character.

Somehow 50% of the boots in retail stores repel me. I only trust boots from Zara and very rarely Nine West and Aldo. I’m a little OCD like that because there’s a very fine line between a decent pair of boots and downright tacky.
Riding boots, however are okay. You cannot go wrong with flat boots, that is if you’ve got a penchant for style. I hate flat boots that are overdone- buckles, rivets and bows all in one? Spare me. Please, I'd rather be caught in rubber slippers on my worst hair day.

On another note,I'm wearing two birthday gifts today, my boots and the necklace, both gifted to me by my dearest friends Nadia and Sarika :)

P.S: Don't be afraid to rock boots and maxi skirts with slits!

What's on my dressing table?

So a lot of my readers have been writing to me asking which foundation I use. I use Makeup forever HD and MAC Studio Fix fluid. And to save you guys from asking more, here's a list of all my favorites that have earned a spot on my dressing table. I only keep things that I love on there, so if its not on my table, I don't love it. Let's start with...

My Earrings. I know I should probably be starting with makeup or moisturizer  but every time I get dressed for an event I always forget to put on earrings. I'm not much of a earring person. I have one pair of studs and the rest are all enormous earrings. I either like them big and extravagant or as small as a stud and nothing else. What on earth are medium-sized hanging drops, I'll never know.

My makeup basket- Contains all my essentials including moisturizer, primer, BB cream, my hair treatment and even little hair pins that I need when I'm running late and having a bad hair day. And I just realized that's not supposed to be in the "MAKEUP" basket. Erm...Moving on...

Arm swag: These are technically not "on" my table, but oh well.

Nail polishes: I keep them all in a huge basket and they look so pretty. Plus I love the "OMIGOSH I LOVE THAT" when I have girlfriends over...

My sephora eye shadow pallet, a Christmas gift from a dear friend and I love how fancy it looks on my table.

 More arm swag...

My favorite lipsticks- Plum rose by Bobbi Brown, So frivolous rouge by Lancome, No 11, no name by Mikyajy, Ibiza Pink and Precious rose by Givenchy

Makeup brushes by Sigma

And finally, Makeup Forever's HD foundation. The coverage is amazing!

And you'll find a lot of other crap when you open the drawers, but I'll save that for another post, kay?

Until then,

Before the Countdown...

Shoes: Zara, Clutch :Monsoon, Cuff: Anna Dello Russo X H&M

Shoes? Check. Accessories? Check? Hair? Check.Back-up dress? Check.Time schedule for the night? Double check.

Every New Year's eve, my best friend, sister and I go all out to make it a spectacular evening. And we always learn valuable lessons year after year. This time, we learned:

  • To always get your hair done first. Hair salons all over Bahrain close at 8 30!!! If you guys know of any that doesn't,please do let me know. Also my BFF and I have decided to open a 24 hour hair salon in Bahrain, once we have enough money to pay staff and rent.
  • Get your dress tailor made. The few weeks before New Years, the entire Venus population is looking for the perfect dress and having a limited selection of brands to choose from, you WILL run into another girl wearing your dress. We don't want that now, do we?
  • If you really fancy a dress you've seen at a store, pick it up and modify it. I do this with almost ALL of my dresses. This NY, I picked up a beautiful red body con-cowl back dress from Jane Norman. To make it even more spectacular, I added red and gold lace sleeves and covered up the neck since the dress was already too short. Remember to only show skin in moderation. There's no mystery to a woman showing too much skin.It is NOT hot.
  • If you've given your dress to be fixed at the last minute and plan on picking it up after work, say 6 pm  and your tailor is a Muslim, make sure you have arrangements to pick it up before the Namaz time, or you will be waiting outside his locked shop for half an hour, thereby resulting in loss of oh-so-precious time.
Hopefully, next year I will get ready on time.
Happy 2013 everybody!
